Production Opening in May

Mixed Blood Theatre (Minneapolis, MN) will present my new play STEPPING OUT OF THE RIVER AT DAWN as part of their 55454 series which examines the African and Muslim experience in America. I'll have the chance to workshop the play for two weeks, then it will enjoy a limited run. I'm thrilled to be working with the Lortel-nominated Owiso Odera again, and collaborating with Aditi Kapil (director), Antu Jacob , and Irungu Mutu for the first time. New Play Reading at Book Culture (UWS)

This Saturday afternoon, head out to Book Culture on the Upper West Side to browse some legendary literary inventory, and also to hear a new play. My new full-length drama TOO WONDERFUL will have an informal reading as part of the Bookshop Workshop reading series. We'd love to hear your thoughts. Synopsis: In April, 2014, 273 schoolgirls were kidnapped from their boarding school in northern Nigeria. TOO WONDERFUL is the story of a retired school teacher from South Carolina who has a vision from God telling her where the girls are, and commanding her to go get them. My new play YOUNG NEGRESS STEPPING OUT OF THE RIVER AT DAWN will open for a limited-run production starting this coming week at Center Stage in Greenville, SC. It won their New Play Festival last year, and I'm very excited to get to work with them again. 24-Hour Play Fest This Weekend

I'm very excited to be one of the five playwrights in this weekend's 24-Hour PlayFest at Trustus Theatre in Columbia, SC. I'll be participating virtually from here in NYC, but I'm glad to be working with such talented directors, actors, and fellow writers. Two Productions for 2014 / 2015

I'm very glad to share that my new play YOUNG NEGRESS STEPPING OUT OF THE RIVER AT DAWN will have two limited-run productions this coming season. Center Stage (Greenville, SC) will present the play in September, 2014, as part of their inaugural "On the Fringe" series. The series examines edgier work and runs in rep with their mainstage production of Hands on a Hard Body book by Doug Wright, lyrics by Amanda Green, music by Trey Anastasio & Amanda Green. I'm honored to continue to work with Centre Stage after winning their New Play Festival in 2013. GPTC is a highlight of the year because they create a collaborative, supportive community around new plays. I'm honored to be invited back for the second year in a row. Plus the food is great.
